Ed. The official language of the Ottoman Empire between the 13th and 20th centuries. The foundation of the language was pure Turkish (for business and administration of the Empire), but it was heavily influenced by Persian (for art, refined literature, and diplomacy), and by Arabic (for theology and religious law). And, according to Grandfather Kenglo's notes, it was also the language of Stefano's original manuscript.
